In 1983 Keke Rosberg was the defending Formula 1 World Champion, and during the West USA Grand Prix of that year he attempted to overtake Patrick Tambay with spectacular results.
The overtake was a fail, and Rosberg spun out wildly – his recovery on the other hand, was a complete success. Rosberg lost only a couple of positions before rejoining the race in spectacular fashion. Behold, the “magic spin”:
