Fully race ready and presented with a huge collection of spares, this Nissan R90CK is one of the last greats of Group C racing and a workhorse historic racer which can take it to the Sauber Mercedes and go blow-for-blow at the pointy end.
In their day Nissan’s R90CKs traded at the top of the field in the World Sportscar Championship, chasing down the dominant Sauber Mercedes C9s as they sorted things out throughout the 1990 season and eventually securing Nissan third place in the constructors’ championship. Over in Japan Nissan ran R90CPs in the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship, taking three wins in 1990 to secure the constructors’ championship and have all four of their drivers tied for the drivers’ championship.
This car, R90C-07, began its life as the thirteenth and final of Lola’s tubs, which was originally left as a spare. Eventually Nova Engineering of Japan picked it up and built it to R90CK spec. It raced in the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship in 1991 at the hands of Akihiko Nakaya and Volkert Weidler, who collected three second place finishes, in the Fuji 500, Fuji 1000 and Sugo 500.
In 1992 the car made its way to the States to compete in the 24 Hours of Daytona, where Weidler, Mauro Martini and Jeff Krosnoff claimed eighth. For 1993 it was upgraded to R93CK specifications and raced to second place in the Suzuka 1000 Kms with Mauro Martini and Heinz-Harald Frentzen.
At this point Group C was winding up and the car left active competition. Its competitive career was reborn in 2002, however, when Charlie Agg bought it and started racing it in historic motorsport events like the HSR Endurance events at Daytona and Sebring, and at the Le Mans Legends in 2004. Since then it’s had an active career in historics all over the world.
Well documented, in perfect working order and offered with a spares collection including moulds, bodywork, several engines that will see it running for years, this Nissan R90CK would be an awesome addition to any historic racer’s quiver.
