Ayrton Senna and Elio De Angelis cross the bridge during the 1984 Monaco Grand Prix.
The waves crashing against the man-made bridge below form a perfect metaphor for the battle between man and nature that was happening right above. Pouring rain and treacherous conditions put the pressure on drivers – of course history would see Alain Prost as the victor, with Senna in second and Elio in fifth. It was Alain Prost’s first win at the Monaco Grand Prix, and Ayrton Senna’s first ever Formula 1 podium. A magic moment indeed.
In this picture, Ayrton Senna was driving the Toleman TG1984. Elio De Angelis, the Lotus 95T.
