What an era!Jacques Laffite won his first Formula One Grand Prix racing for Ligier in 1977, hustling behind the wheel of the Ligier Matra JS7. Part way through the 1978 season he moved to the updated JS9, the debut race being the 1978 Monaco Grand Prix.

Unfortunately gearbox issues would cause him to retire, the race would be won by Patrick Depailler, who had more than 22 seconds on second place Niki Lauda by the end of the race. It was the first time Depailler would win a Formula One Grand Prix.

Jacques Laffite would end up in eight place at the conclusion of the 1978 season, with the JS9 taking him to a pair of podium finishes before the year was out.
