1983 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix

Bathurst on four wheels is exciting – on two it’s something else! Hang on tight for this broadcast of the 1983 500cc Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Bathurst may have huge significance to Australian motorsport and a massive global appeal, but its undulating turns have only felt the might of the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix nine times.

The Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix was even born in the area. The first race, then called the Grand Prix of Australia was held on a public course near Yetholme, just outside of Bathurst, in 1914.

The event made nine appearances on The Mountain, with the last held in 1988. After that it became part of the Grand Prix motorcycle racing season and moved to the (equally) classic Phillip Island, with a brief sojourn at Eastern Creek throughout the early-to-mid ’90s.

Each time the big bikes hit the track at Bathurst they were sure to produce something spectacular. This race, the 1983 500cc Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, is no exception!

It’s a smorgasbord of awesome ’80s machinery, fierce riders and brilliant retro footage. Enjoy!
