Nearly 50 years ago, a shining beacon from the future rolled onto the grid at Indianapolis. Enjoy the terrific tale of the 1968 Lotus Indy Turbine Car. Back in the 1950’s, much of the world believed that turbine powered vehicles were the future of personal transportation.
In the long run things didn’t pan out for the experimental form of automotive propulsion, however that didn’t stop a handful of racing teams worldwide from having a red-hot go during the development process.
One of those was Lotus, who entered the 1968 Indianapolis 500 with a trio of turbine powered cars. A terrific story unfolded – and this video captured the lot.
