This Lotus Elan S4 FHC race car is well-sorted, fast, stunning and affordable – everything you need to go historic racing! It’s about to head to auction at Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale.
Originally a 1970 Series 4 Elan built for the Classic Sport Car race series, this car started its life with a suite of 26R-spec components. As with most race cars it’s enjoyed some development through its life and now runs as a well-sorted historic race car.
Its 1600cc Lotus Twin Cam was built to full FIA specification, putting out 173BHP at 7750 RMp with DCOE 45 carburetors. That power is sent through a Trans-X close ratio gearbox and LSD with TTR outputs. It sits on a new Tony Thompson 26R chassis, with TTR oversized adjustable front shocks and Koni adjustable rear shocks. Girling AR1 26R front brakes and rear Billet Hi-Spec calipers handle stopping duties, and magnesium alloy 26R wheels allow all of this effort to be converted into momentum.
The Elan ran in the Swinging Sixties Classic Sports Car series from 2010 to 2012, claiming second in class in 2011.
The car is absolutely stunning and looks to be in great condition. Estimated to go for between £28,000 & £32,000, it’s looking like an affordable, ready to race entree into historic racing.
Silverstone Auctions’ Race Retro Classic Car Sale is set for the 21st and 22nd of February, 2015. Head to Silverstone Auctions’ website here for more information.
