Back in 1976 Ron Hodgson Racing and Leyland Australia had a plan for a unique racing Triumph Dolomite Sprint. It was set to be the fastest, toughest and rarest in the world. So why did it never race?
With a 2.0-litre motor, big spoilers and flares, the car was to be designed to be a petite, but similar tough racer reminiscent of the team’s Group C Holden Torana L34.
The team had a thoroughly documented proposal backed by Leyland Australia, Bob Morris set to drive and Ron Missen on board as chief mechanic. When it got to Australia’s governing body for motorsport, the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, however, it was rejected.
