Over the weekend of the 5th to the 7th of August, the very first edition of Super Spa was held at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

The organization of this new event was carried out by the successful duo of Alain Defalle and Vincent Collard, who have also been responsible for the renowned Spa Summer Classic and Spa Six Hours for many years.

Super Spa guaranteed three days of historic and modern motorsport run under the theme of ‘Not all heroes wear capes, some of them wear helmets’. While normally the weather in the Ardennes is anything but predictable, this weekend the sun was shining in abundance and there was not a drop of rain in sight.

Although the event featured a mix of both historic and modern motorsport series, we at Motorsport Retro will focus on the historic stuff that appeared on the track during this weekend in Spa. Friday, August 5 was entirely reserved by Classic Racing Automobile Club Belgium (CRAC), alternating high speed sessions for historic single seaters, sports cars and GTs.

The largest field of the weekend was made up of historic single seaters, of which more than 50 Formula 3, Opel Lotus and Formula Ford 1600 and 2000s took over the racing asphalt at Spa-Francorchamps.

Twenty five minute races were reserved for the historic F3, Opel Lotus and Formula Ford 1600 and 2000 cars, as the Spa Ardennes Challenge had already completed a 25-minute race on Saturday. The second 25-minute race was scheduled for Sunday.

In just under two months, the next masterpiece by Alain Defalle and Vincent Collard will be on the calendar, the Spa Six Hours.
