At the peak of their sportscar racing domination, Porsche’s works Rothmans team’s boycotted the 1984 24 Hours of Le Mans, due to a disagreement over changes in fuel regulations. A Porsche would go on to win the race anyway, but it left works driver Derek Bell, in the hunt for his fourth Le Mans win, short of a seat for the legendary race.
