France 1968, and the Ferrari of Jacky Ickx passes the fatal wreck of Jo Schlesser’s magnesium-bodied Honda, which was a new design at the time. Schlesser ended up behind the wheel after team-mate John Surtees refused to drive the new chassis, opting for the earlier shape on the grounds that the most recent model was unsafe. Ickx took the race as his sole Grand Prix victory of 1968, and the French GP would never again be held at Rouen-Les Essarts.
