We’ve been enjoying Turbo Week here at Motorsport Retro, so we had to stop in and enjoy the home of the most exciting machines that turbos have blown along – Group B rally cars.
This stunning ’84 Peugeot 205 T16 Evolution 1 Group B rally car is heading to auction at Artcurial’s upcoming Salon Rétromobile Paris sale.
Homologated in 1984, Peugeot’s 205 T16 trounced the opposition in the ’85 World Rally Championship, winning seven of eleven races, taking a constructors’ title, their first, and powering Timo Salonen and Seppo Harjane to the drivers’ title. And they came back in ’86 to do it all again with the Evolution 2, this time with Juha Kankkunen and Juha Piironen taking the drivers’ title.
This particular car was part of Peugeot’s factory team and contested two championship rallies in ’85 – the Acropolis Rally, from which it retired with broken steering, and the Argentina Rally in which it finished third driven by the great Carlos Reutemann and JF Fauchille. It was restored in ’86 after a season of racing and was kept by Peugeot until 2008.
The car was recommissioned in 2008, and now represents a great opportunity as an extraordinary page in rally history with a significant motorsport history – a true legend of the turbo era.
Head to Artcurial’s site here for the full details.
